Mary I. Scullen
A Brief Biography

I was born in Bemidji Minnesota on September 28, 1962 at 4:15 pm CST. All through my childhood I knew That I was different from other people around me; I carried a strong desire to be of service and to do healing. As I approached my teen years my peers would seek me out for counseling and guidance.

I was fascinated by all things metaphysical and the psychic arts. My spiritual connection has always been strong and I would always question my pastor about my religious teachings, When my mother passed away I was sixteen years old and my life changed tremendously. My spirituality grew stronger and my psychic powers strengthened.

After graduating from Stillwater High School, I went on to receive my Laboratory Medical Technician degree from Lakeland Medical-Dental Academy. My experiences in the medical field confirmed my belief there was more to healing than western medicine had to offer. As I started my search in complementary therapies, I was exploring the Native American way of life and their Shaman healers.

In 1994 I gave birth to my youngest child, who had medical complications, was caring for my other children, working full-time, and in a failing marriage. I was under a lot of stress. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Due to complications with fibromyalgia my independent life was falling apart and I needed to rely on medications to function on a daily basis. I decided I needed to drastically change my life, and embrace my true beliefs.

In 1995 I was practicing crystal healing, aromatherapy, herbalism, and healing touch. I strengthened my spirituality thru meditation, movement, and breath work. My fibromyalgia symptoms had lessened, so I no longer needed medication to function. My life was starting to feel right.

In January 1999 I decided I no longer wanted to be in the western medical field. I needed a more personal healing method. I started my search in complimentary therapies. I wanted a natural healing system, none of the complementary therapies I looked into felt right to me. Over the next few weeks I kept seeing a particular book where ever I went, the book was on Reiki written by William Rand. I read the book within 2 days and knew Reiki was what I was looking for. My search for a Reiki Master/Teacher followed.

I found several Reiki Masters listed in a local metaphysical newspaper. I mulled over my list for about a week. Susan Aguirre was the Reiki Master I contacted and I knew instantly she was the one for me. Susan has wonderful energy, and we had so much in common. On April 1999 I received level I Reiki from Susan. My energy flow was immense and I knew Reiki was the natural healing system I was looking for. I also deepened my spirituality even further and made the decision to become a minister of the Universal Life Church (a non-denominational church that respects all paths). I went through an immense spiritual growth process that year, and all the while I continued to study complementary therapies. In January 2000 I became a Reiki Master/Teacher. I have continued to grow and learn.
